ICAO Responsibilities

ICAO requires that all States and their Overseas Territories make provision for a Meteorological Service. The Cayman Islands Airport Authority (CIAA) has the contracted responsibility for the provision of available meteorological services for aeronautical use in the Cayman Islands.

The National Weather Service provides this service by collecting, analyzing and disseminating meteorological information to the appropriate facilities, including Air Traffic Control Towers for both Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac. The National Weather Service is responsible for providing various other services, including pilot weather briefings, to aeronautical users.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands is responsible for the safety oversight of the Meteorological Services unit.
