Operating Permits
- Do I need an operating permit to fly an owner operated private aircraft into the Cayman Islands
- No, an owner operated aircraft that is operated for private purposes do not require a permit.
- Do I need prior permission to operate a charter flight into the Cayman Islands?
- All foreign registered aircraft operating into the territory for valuable consideration (given or promised) must obtain an appropriate operating permit (scheduled or non-scheduled) from the CAACI. Application forms are provided at web link CAACI Operating Permit Forms.
Aircraft Registry
- Can a specific aircraft registration mark be reserved?
- Yes, an aircraft registration mark may be reserved at an additional cost of CI$100 for the next sequenced mark or for CI$300 for an out of sequence marking.
- What organization is eligible for an "Acceptance of Maintenance Arrangements" Approval?
- Any maintenance facility that has received acceptance/approval from the following: FAA 145 Repair Station Approval, JAA/EASA 145 Maintenance Approval and, Transport Canada CAR 573 Approved Maintenance Organization.
- What organisation is eligible for the grant of an OTAR 145 Approved Maintenance Organization?
- All of the organizations listed in the previous question.
- What is the normal period of validity of a Certificate of Airworthiness?
- Certificate of Airworthiness is valid for one year and may be renewed up to 60 days prior to expiry and still retain the original anniversary date.
Mortgaging of Aircraft
- Can a mortgage be registered for a Cayman Islands registered aircraft as security for a loan for that aircraft?
- A mortgage can be registered for an aircraft registered in the Cayman Islands as security for a loan or other valuable consideration for that aircraft, or for any store or spare parts for that aircraft.
- What is the validity period of a priority notice to register a mortgage?
- A mortgage registered within 14 days shall be deemed to have priority from the time when the priority notice was registered.
Pilot Licensing/Certificate of Validation
- How can I obtain a pilot licence validation certificate?
- Pilot licence validations are obtained by submitting an application on the Pilot Licence Certificate of Validation Renewal form.
- What is the normal period for processing a validation application?
- The normal period is five working days after receipt of all required documentation.
- Must the pilot licence include the aircraft rating for the aircraft proposed to be flown?
- Yes, the appropriate aircraft rating must be included in the licence.

- What is the cost of a pilot licence validation certificate?
- A validation certificate is issued for twelve months and cost CI$200.00 or US$ 243.90.
- Can the validation certificate be mailed to my home address?
- The validation certificate is normally returned to the address of the operator of the aircraft, unless otherwise requested by him.
Finance
- What is the conversion rate of CI$ to US$ for your invoices?
- Invoices produced by the CAACI are quoted in Cayman Islands Dollars (CI$). The rate of conversion to United States Dollars (US$) is US$1 = CI$0.82.
- When are payment of invoices due?
- Payment of invoices should be made within 30 days of the invoiced date.
- What reference should be listed when paying by wire transfer?
- The aircraft registration mark and invoice #'s being paid should be referenced on the wire transfer.

- What is the cost to register an aircraft in the Cayman Islands?
